ESPN recently did a story on Chancellor Adams, the child of ex-NFL wide receiver Rae Carruth, and his grandmother Saundra Adams. Rae Carruth was sent to prison in 2000 for conspiring to murder his child’s mother. To this day, Rae Carruth denies involvement in the shooting (although he hid in the trunk of a car when authorities found him).

In the wake of her daughter’s death, Saundra has been tasked with the responsibility of taking care of Chancellor, which includes rehabilitating him, because the injuries sustained during his mother’s shooting left him with cerebral palsy. Despite all of that, she forgives Rae Carruth and the shooter Van Brett Watkins. For a person to release all of the hatred and pain from losing a loved one in such a callous manner is probably one of the greatest displays of strength I have seen in my life.
